Fifth Grade Art Shines at the Upcoming Heritage Fair
Westchester Day School’s fifth grade artists have taken inspiration from the rich visual language of Gustav Klimt as they prepare for the upcoming Heritage Fair. Drawing from Klimt’s iconic “Tree of Life,” students created their own family trees—each one a stunning blend of artistic expression and personal heritage.
In Klimt’s spirit, students filled their canvases with intricate patterns, swirling lines, and gilded embellishments. But what truly sets each piece apart is the individuality woven into every brushstroke. While some students echoed Klimt’s signature spirals and golden palette, others reimagined the tree form entirely—playing with shape, space, and symbolism to better reflect their unique family narratives.
To complete their work, students added shimmering gold paint and sparkling gems, capturing both the elegance of Klimt’s art and the meaningful legacy of their families. The result is a gallery of luminous, expressive masterpieces that are as visually striking as they are personally meaningful.
These Klimt-inspired family trees will be on display at the Heritage Fair—each one a powerful celebration of identity, creativity, and cultural roots.
