Diverse Learner Project

Why is Westchester Day School investing in a Diverse Learner Project? One of our school’s educational goals is to increase our capacity to serve a wider range of student learning needs. With the support of a group of funders led by Miriam and Ari Loren, throughout the 2022-2023 school year, WDS developed and implemented a qualitative research study to determine how our school can succeed in this endeavor. During the research study, over 30 in-depth research conversations were held with Jewish Day Schools nationally, Jewish educational organizations, professional development organizations, Westchester Day School administration and faculty, and local community members.

This research was conducted and analyzed by a school-based Task Force who worked together to identify core initiatives, including Responsive Classroom, a new SEL curriculum led by newly appointed SEL Coordinators, Consultation with the Shefa Center, English as a New Language Support, and increased Early Childhood Intervention Support.

This year, we will continue to do research and move this Project forward. Please review how we've been implementing the MORE into our classrooms here.
